What is dermabrasion?

Dermabrasion is a procedure of removal of superficial layers of skin with medical or cosmetic purpose. During the procedure, a special grinding is done. Its aim is to make skin smoother, taking out an upper layer of cells by means of the rotating burr.

Principle of the procedure:

Removal of an upper layer results in the smoothness of small wrinkles and they become almost invisible. This procedure is widely used to fight against cuts and small scars. Most often dermabrasion is done in a face area, but it can be also done for a body, for example in a back area. Dermabrasion reminds peeling, the difference is that it is much deeper.

Local anesthesia or general anesthesia, depending on a zone and the patient’s wishes.

Complications:

Pain, bleeding. If the procedure was done in a face area for the patient it’s better not to visit events within one week. For the next two weeks, the skin will be red and inflamed.

Possible risks:

An incomplete disappearance of deep scars and cuts. The deeper is the cut, the more procedures are necessary to make it invisible. A clearly defined cut can demand several procedures at an interval of 6 months. Skin discoloration is also one of the frequent risks.

Before the operation:

Before the operation, you will need to visit at least two consultations. During the first consultation, you will be able to ask the surgeon any questions interesting you and receive the detailed estimate of a preliminary intervention. If you decide to be operated, then this estimate must be signed before the second consultation. The signed estimate is your knowing and intelligent consent for the surgery. (it’s mandatory under French law). Nevertheless, for the patients who come to do the operation from other countries, we will organize formalities from a distance on the Internet or by mail. Also during the second consultation, such things as anesthesia, preoperative tests, and desired result will be discussed.

After the operation:

Dressings: the first dressing will be carried out in the surgeon’s office by the nurse, then the patient will need to wash and lubricate skin with a special cream before a full recovery that takes 7 – 10 days. Natural skin color is restored in 4 – 6 weeks. Also, the client has to protect the processed skin from the influence of sunshine.
